Last week was the last of my illustration classes (although I have signed back up to the next set so get eight more weeks of fun!) and our task was to come up with an illustration for an article from the Guardian.
We are given the text and told the dimension for the illustration and get to work. I really liked the line ‘I also dread having to tell people that their white swimwear has gone see-through…’, however my idea of a lady desperately trying to cover herself with her arms wasn’t working with the dimensions. The following line was ‘…or that they cant wear thong bikini bottoms…’ Can you tell where this is going!! In the end I came up with 3 uniform looking ladies in different swimwear with the offending bottoms in the middle. At the end of the class we are given the words on an A4 page with a hole cut out for out picture so we can see how they all look.
I have put a couple of my working sketches along with the final one below…I hope you like them!
They are Letraset Pro Markers on animation paper though for some reason the colours washed out when I scanned them in so I have used photos of them to keep the colour quality. Their nicknamed ‘The Birthday Bottoms’ as the class was on my birthday!
Till next time…
I have not posted anything from my illustration course for a while as its mainly been observational drawings. However this week was ‘life drawing’ of each other from across the room. Not having done any proper life drawing since leaving university I was a bit scared as to how it would go as we would all be drawing whilst being drawn, though I have surprised myself! Im really proud of how each of them have come out. Each one was about 30-40 mins I think, i’m not entirely sure as I was so engrossed in the drawing I didn’t really want to stop!
Till my next post…
Ive added some new images to the flash design page. They are a selection of screens that I like from the recent modules I have created.
Heres a preview…
Fire Warden course
I have also created a “showreel” of screens that you can click through here as an example of how the screens work. You will need a flash player as its a .swf file. Hope you like it all and the new look!
Over the last few months I’ve found myself in a bit of a creative rut, so I enrolled on an illustration evening course at the University of Hertfordshire. Tuesday was the first class and it was really good fun, in fact I had such a good time I’ve not really put my pencil down since. My mind is now once more inspired and I am constantly wanting to work on my ideas to show everyone next week.
I thought I would share with you the outcome so far… our theme was “food fight”. One mouse is about to pounce on the other who’s checking if the coast is clear to run off with his wedge of cheese.
Developing them on my lunch breaks at work has meant I’ve not been able to use my usual tools like my scanner and light box. Its been great to do something virtually non-digital for a change. I treated my self to some Letraset Pro Markers too which I used to give some colour to them. Im really impressed with how they have come out on the animation paper, virtually seamless!!
So enough from me for now! I will update them soon.
This week I was asked to create this logo for GJS Education from the existing design provided.
The brief was that it should be navy blue and orange, though I picked lighter shades to make the logo stand out, and chose to match the text in the same blue.
Finally found some time to add in a few new bits from this last year to my showreel.
The shot list and credits will be added soon all on the Showreel page.
This week I will also hopefully be adding a similar showreel of my flash design work that you will be able to click through and interact with.
Carry On Cleaning!
Recently I was asked to design a 1950’s pinup style lady for a friends cleaning company ‘Carry On Cleaning’. It couldn’t be to risque so I chose to put her in a longer dress.
Its the first time I have drawn and coloured a ‘realistic’ person and I am really pleased with how she and the flyer has turned out.
So if you are in the Hitchin area and need some sparkle in your house give them a call!
